| The
SUNLINK project is pleased to announce that SUNLINK's Email
Interlibrary Loan (e-ILL) is available to school library
media programs. As students need more and more information,
SUNLINK becomes a more integral part of the media program.
But not only do students need more information, they need
it faster than ever before! We anticipate that e-ILL will
greatly facilitate the resource sharing process, but like
SUNLINK itself, SUNLINK e-ILL will only be successful when
we all work together and follow some basic guidelines.
This
is a voluntary program, but as school library media specialists
continue to use and implement technology-rich environments,
we think SUNLINK e-ILL will become an essential part of all
school library media programs. For the foreseeable future,
schools will continue to share materials through district
courier and U.S. mail.
Only
schools who agree to receive e-ILL requests via email and
loan materials can generate e-ILL requests to borrow materials.
In other words, you agree to "both a borrower and a lender
be"--electronically, of course! Schools must apply to participate
in SUNLINK e-ILL.
School
media programs that agree to participate in SUNLINK e-ILL
must commit to checking their school or district email account
daily. If you receive an e-ILL request, please reply as soon
as possible--and never longer than 24 hours later--either
that you can fill the request and the item is on its way,
or that you are unable to fill the request.
The
same interlibrary loan protocols that have been in place since
the beginning of the project will apply.
If
you have additional questions about SUNLINK e-ILL, please
contact the SUNLINK office at 1-800-226-0085 or sunlink@mail.ucf.edu.
