| Who
does Interlibrary Loans...
All
Florida K-12 SUNLINK schools are Interlibrary Loan partners! The library media
specialists of these schools make the ILL request and receive the ILL item when
shipped.
Schools
who have their library media collection in SUNLINK share library media resources
via Interlibrary Loan. Students and teachers in SUNLINK schools are encouraged
to request Interlibrary Loans through their library media specialist when the
item they want is not in their school collection. Library media specialists in
SUNLINK schools are encouraged to be:
1) proactive by suggesting Interlibrary Loans and 2) cooperative in fulfilling
requests.

Benefits of Interlibrary Loan...
K-12
library media specialists know that Interlibrary Loans are critical in providing
needed resources or desired reading materials for their schools. Sharing via
Interlibrary Loan helps all SUNLINK schools fill gaps in collections and
provides needed services to users. |

What items are shared...
Any
print or AV Any
print or AV item in the SUNLINK database may be loaned out if the holding school
has it available at the time of request and does not think that it might be in
immediate demand in their own school. Schools should always follow their own
local restrictions on loaning. All SUNLINK schools should accept the spirit of
Interlibrary Loan and make every effort to fulfill any request. Always be aware
and abide by any restrictions placed on you by copyright law and licensing
agreements that accompany your AV titles.

How
ILLs are located...
If you
are the media specialist requesting an item, you should first look for a school
in your own district that owns the needed item. If it is not available in your
district, look in your region. Still can't find it? Look at the the entire
state.
|
 |
| Sending
the ILL request...
You can make the request by either fax or email. You will need a user name and
password. Your username and password is assigned by SUNLINK. If you choose to use email you will need an E ILL account. Please submit an application
here.
|
| |
Receiving
the ILL request...
Once
the request is received, the holding school should respond to the availability of
the item. Either send the item or send an unavailability message. |
| |
|
Shipping
the ILL item...
If
the schools are in the same school district, the district
courier system is the best way to send Interlibrary Loans.
This is a no-cost method for the schools to use in sharing
resources and it is used in over 96% of SUNLINK Interlibrary
Loans.
But
if the request is from outside the district, the loaning
school will pay the postage to send the item out. The borrowing
school will then pay the postage to return the item. Since
less than 5% of SUNLINK ILL requests are outside the district,
postage for ILL (using Media Rate) should not be a burden
to schools. Always verify the address when mailing or returning
Interlibrary Loans -- many SUNLINK schools have similar
names.
Any
item sent out for Interlibrary Loan should be clearly marked
as such by the use of the SUNLINK ILL book sleeve. The due
date and loaning school name and address should be clearly
printed on the book sleeve.
