What skills are needed for success in the 21st century? The Partnership for 21st Century Skills issued a report after surveying "educators, academics, business leaders and employers to determine a vision for learning in the 21st century, to reach consensus on the definition of 21st century skills, and to develop tools to aid communities in its implementation."

Definitions of Literacy
One of four categories of skills needed for the 21st century, digital-age literacy includes information literacy, technological literacy, scientific literacy, media literacy, cultural literacy and global awareness, critical literacy, cognitive literacy and visual literacy--each is defined here. Other skills sets are inventive thinking, effective communication and decision making, and quality, state-of-the-art results.
