Introduction
to the SUNLINK Online Components
Since
1999 SUNLINK has been offering online education to media specialists
throughout Florida FREE of charge. SUNLINK currently offers
two components (Practical Applications & Practical PR).
Our primary target audience is K-12 public school media specialists
in SUNLINK schools, and not yet SUNLINK schools. Media aides,
media supervisors, and media specialists "to be"
are also encouraged to take these components.
Before
registering for a component, read all of the related information.
SUNLINK is suggesting that each component be worth 30 in-service
points. The staff development office of your school district
awards in-service points. In order to receive in-service points,
you must make arrangements with the staff development office
in your district before enrolling in this component.

Description:
There
is no cost for taking this component. It is free!
"SUNLINK:
Practical Applications" is an online component open
to all Florida school library media specialists in SUNLINK
and not yet SUNLINK schools. Media specialists who have
previously completed the now retired "SUNLINK Automation
for Information Power" online component, or the new
"SUNLINK: Practical PR" component are also eligible
to enroll in this component.
Particular
emphasis will be placed on how to integrate SUNLINK into
your media program with practical examples of SUNLINK
usage.
SUNLINK activities to be covered:

Activity
1: SUNLINK's Online Class Survival Kit (Experience
online tools such as Discussion posts and Class Mail
to be used throughout the component)

Activity
2: SUNLINK and Information Skills (Learn basic
and advanced search strategies)

Activity
3: Doing the SUNLINK Combo (Combine SUNLINK's
reading level and interest level information, bibliography
builder, and interlibrary loan for maximum results)

Activity 4: MARC Records, Cataloged Web Sites
and Other SUNLINK Resources (Explore more SUNLINK
tools and see how they can make life easier for you,
your students, and teachers)

Activity
5: Universal Access to SUNLINK (Discover what
UA is all about, and how media specialists throughout
the state are fulfilling the needs of all their students)
SUNLINK
is suggesting that this component be worth 30 in-service

4: Selling SUNLINK to Students (Build on the
SUNLINK skills you have learned from the previous activities,
and learn how to apply them to your students)

5: Selling SUNLINK to Other Audiences (Learn
why it is important to get the SUNLINK message out to
your principal, parents, media aide, and fellow media
specialists. Previously learned SUNLINK skills will be
used to show how successfully win over these audiences.

in this activity.)
