Tips
for Media Specialists Have
the item for which you need MARC records handy before you
begin. If your item is a popular title, narrow the search
by limiting to publication date as well as title.
Search by ISBN by putting the ISBN in the Quick Search line
of the search screen. This should insure a good match to title,
author, publication date and publisher.
Match points include: title, subtitle (if any), edition (if
any), author, publisher, publication (or copyright) year,
and physical description.
This movie also includes tips for matching a record to your
item, where to find the best AV records, speed searching,
and deciding on the best record to download.
If your results list has too many "hits," quickly
scan the list for publication year, which will allow you to
check fewer records for a good match.
Remember that downloading the MARC record does not tell SUNLINK
that you now own that item! If you are required to report
"adds" to SUNLINK each year, make a paper copy of
the record after you import it into your automation system.
Keep these in a file marked "adds for SUNLINK" and
send them when requested to do so. |
