Tips
for Media Specialists Have
the items for which you need MARC records handy before you
begin. If an item is a popular title, narrow the search by
limiting to publication date as well as title. If searching
for MARC records for AV titles, limit your search to Pasco
school district in Region 4.
Search by ISBN by putting the ISBN in the Quick Search line
of the search screen. This should insure a good match to title,
author, publication date and publisher.
Match points include: title, subtitle (if any), edition (if
any), author, publisher, publication (or copyright) year,
and physical description.
If your results list has too many "hits," quickly
scan the list for publication year, which will allow you to
check fewer records for a good match.
This movie also includes tips for matching your item to a
record, where to find the best AV records, speedy searching,
language and format limiting, and determining the best record
of several records.
Remember that downloading the MARC records does not tell SUNLINK
that you now own those items! If you are required to report
"adds" to SUNLINK each year, print out a copy of
the MARC download list and write your call number next to
each title. Keep this in a file marked "adds for SUNLINK"
and send when requested to do so. |
